On behalf of the Board of Education and Cabinet, welcome to the 2026–27 school year!
I hope you had a great summer and found some time to relax, recharge, and enjoy family and friends. There’s just something about the start of a new school year: the excitement, the fresh start, and all the prospects ahead. Whether your child is walking into kindergarten for the very first time or heading back to a campus they know and love, a new year brings new teachers, new friendships, new challenges, and plenty of opportunities to grow.
This year is especially meaningful for me as I begin my first official year as Superintendent. While the title may be new, EUSD certainly isn’t. For the past five years, I’ve had the privilege of being part of this district and getting to know the incredible students, employees, families, and community partners who make EUSD such a special place. I’m incredibly honored to serve as your Superintendent, and I’m excited about where we’re headed together.
We have a lot to be proud of in EUSD, and this year we’re going to keep building on that great work. We’ll stay focused on student achievement, purposeful engagement, positive school cultures, and safe, welcoming learning environments where every student feels known, supported, and challenged to reach their full potential. And through it all, we’ll keep students right where they belong, at the center of every decision we make.
You’ll also continue to hear us say Every Day Counts, because it really does. Every day at school is a chance to learn something new, make a connection, discover a talent, tackle a challenge, ask a great question, or simply become a little more confident than the day before. Those moments may seem small, but they add up to something pretty incredible.
One of the things I’m looking forward to most this year is getting out to our schools. I want to be in classrooms, on playgrounds, at events, and wherever our students are learning and growing. I can’t wait to meet more of our families, celebrate our students and staff, and see firsthand all the great things happening across EUSD.
Thank you for trusting us with your children and for being our partners in this work. We don’t take that responsibility, or that partnership, lightly.

Here are this week’s updates and reminders.
Student Registration
If you have not yet registered your returning student, now is the time to complete the required registration for all students returning to EUSD for the 2026-27 school year. You can complete your child's registration by clicking the following link: Returning Student Registration PowerSchool Parent Portal. The Returning Student Registration takes just minutes to complete online. Timely submission of registration for the 2026-2027 school year will help ensure proper placement of your child, prevent delays in receiving your child's class schedule, assist staff in determining your child’s eligibility for assistance program benefits, and confirm that necessary emergency contact information is up to date. Returning families have received a letter by U.S. Mail with instructions for accessing the parent portal. It is essential that all returning students register through the online process in order to update essential information.
If you have a child who is new to EUSD, please visit our Enrollment and Registration webpage to access the appropriate links and review important information for this process for students entering Transitional Kindergarten through 8th grade. In addition:

For the 2026-2027 school year, children are eligible for full-day
if their date of birth is between September 2, 2021, and September 1, 2022. For full-day Kindergarten, eligible students must be age 5 on or before September 1, 2026.
Preschool applications:
EUSD State Preschool is still accepting online applications for the 2026-2027 school year. Visit the preschool website to access the application. Applications will be accepted for children who will be age 3 by December 1, 2026. If your child will turn 3 during the 2026-2027 school year, you can apply on or after their birthday. Preschool classes are available at seven EUSD elementary schools: Central, Juniper, Glen View, Lincoln, Oak Hill, Pioneer, and Rose. EUSD Preschool is offered through the California State Preschool Program and licensed through the California Department of Social Services. Eligibility for the program is based on household income; however, there are additional opportunities for families who may qualify to participate in the EUSD State Preschool Program based on residing within the boundaries of one of our sites. In addition, students with IEPs also qualify for the State Preschool program. To learn more, visit the EUSD Preschool website or email preschoolenrollment@eusd.org. Discover Ignite Dance
EUSD students in grades 4–8 are invited to join Ignite Dance Team, a highly awarded program where students build confidence, creativity, teamwork, and performance skills while having fun and making lasting memories.
Ignite Dance Team has earned USA National titles in Hip Hop, Lyrical, Jazz, and Contemporary, and now all EUSD students have the opportunity to be part of this exciting experience!
Everyone is welcome. No dance experience necessary! Students will learn choreography, perform at community events, and have the opportunity to compete. Best of all, there is absolutely no cost to families.

STEM in Action: Family Robotics Night
EUSD families are invited to a FREE evening of STEM, robotics, and family fun at Bear Valley Middle School, 3003 Bear Valley Pkwy., Escondido, CA 92025, on Monday, August 17, beginning at 5:00 p.m.
Meet Jay Flores, STEM advocate, author of Engineer Someday, and three-time American Ninja Warrior competitor! The evening will feature a live bilingual book reading, an engaging STEM and engineering presentation, and live robot demonstrations from San Pasqual High School’s SuperNURDs and Bear Valley Middle School’s SuperNOVAs robotics teams.
Families will also have the opportunity to meet Jay and the robotics teams, take photos with the robots, and enter a raffle to win a signed copy of Engineer Someday. Admission is free, and all ages are welcome! Come explore the exciting world of STEM and see where engineering, creativity, and a little robot power can take you!
Stay connected
The EUSD mobile app is your one-stop shop for messaging teachers, receiving classroom updates, and keeping up with school and district news and events. The free “EUSD Escondido CA” app is available for download from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Simply sign in using your phone number or email address. See the Rooms Resources for Families page (English) | Rooms Resources for Families page (Spanish) for step-by-step instructions. Your student’s classes will begin to appear in the EUSD app on Friday evening, August 14, for elementary schools and Monday evening, August 17, for middle schools. Returning families must update to the latest version of the app, either by deleting and reinstalling it or by updating through your app store. School supplies
The district provides all school supplies that are needed for every student to succeed in school. You may receive a “wish list” for your child’s classroom; however, these are simply requests and not mandatory for you to provide. At home, it’s recommended that children have access to a quiet place to do homework. Should you need any supplies for home, such as pencils, a notebook, or crayons, please let your child’s teacher know or contact your school’s family liaison or school social worker.
